Revere, MA – A juvenile driver was killed in a head-on collision on Route 1 early Sunday morning, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. near Sargent Street when the driver was reported traveling south in the northbound lanes. Authorities said multiple 911 calls were received about the wrong-way vehicle shortly before the crash.
Upon impact, the driver's vehicle caught fire, leading to fatal injuries. The driver died at the scene. The occupant of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to a Boston hospital for treatment.
All lanes of Route 1 were closed for several hours and reopened around 8:15 a.m. Police have not identified the driver pending notification of their family.
The crash remains under investigation.
