OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH) — Emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle wrong-way crash on I-44 near I-240 on Tuesday morning.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that an impaired driver was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-44 around 9:30 a.m. The driver collided with a semi-truck near North May Ave and continued driving against traffic for approximately three miles before crashing into a wall.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries occurred as a result of the crash. The driver was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center, according to OHP.
OHP emphasized the serious risks associated with wrong-way driving, stating, “These incidents often end in catastrophic or fatal crashes. Today's outcome was the best-case scenario, but it easily could have been one of the worst.”
The agency urged motorists to avoid driving under the influence, highlighting the potential consequences of such decisions.
