AIEA, Hawaii (Island News) – A hit-and-run incident early Wednesday morning left a 28-year-old woman hospitalized in serious condition.
At approximately 2:45 a.m., the woman was riding a moped eastbound in the center lane of Kamehameha Hwy when she was rear-ended by an unidentified driver. The driver fled the scene without stopping to render aid.
The force of the collision ejected the rider onto the roadway. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that speed appears to be a contributing factor to the crash, though it remains unclear if alcohol or drugs were involved.
The Honolulu Police Department's Traffic Division is investigating the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact them at 808-723-3413.
The investigation is ongoing.
