CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. — A fatal crash on Interstate 95 in Caroline County Saturday around noon left one person dead and two hospitalized.
According to Virginia State Police, the incident occurred near mile marker 115 involving a gold SUV. One driver lost control, crossed the median, and collided with northbound traffic.
Emergency responders transported two individuals to a local hospital, while the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
Witnesses reported the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles on the left shoulder before the driver tried to re-enter the lane, resulting in a loss of control.
The crash highlighted safety concerns due to the absence of a guardrail in the area, with some speculating it could have prevented the vehicle from crossing into oncoming traffic.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and they urge other witnesses to come forward with any information.
