ELMWOOD, La. — Louisiana State Police arrested a driver following a deadly hit-and-run incident on Wednesday.
Veleka Dabney-Swan, 47, of White Castle, is charged in connection with the crash, which occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on April 22 on Louisiana Highway 48 near Edwards Avenue.
According to authorities, a 43-year-old man from New Orleans was walking across the westbound lanes of LA Highway 48 in dark clothing when he was struck by Dabney-Swan's vehicle, which was also traveling west.
The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Dabney-Swan fled the scene of the incident.
She was apprehended on Thursday and is facing charges of hit-and-run resulting in death. The investigation is ongoing.
