WAILEA, Hawaii (Island News) – A motorcyclist was killed on Wailea Alanui Drive late Sunday night after losing control of his bike.
Authorities said the 44-year-old man from Wailuku was traveling north when he veered off the road and struck a curb. He was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirmed the rider was not wearing a helmet, and speed appears to be a contributing factor; however, investigations into drug or alcohol involvement are ongoing.
This incident marks Maui County's 10th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 12 fatalities at the same time in 2022.
Emergency services responded to the crash, and no other vehicles were involved. Lane closures were briefly implemented while the scene was cleared.
