GREENVILLE, Pitt County — A vehicle accident led to a wastewater spill in Pitt County on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1:40 p.m. on February 14, 2026, at the intersection of 14th Street and Dalebrook Circle. According to Greenville Utilities Commission (GUC), the accident caused damage to a manhole, resulting in an overflow of approximately 1,870 gallons of wastewater into Fornes Branch, a tributary of the Tar River.
Utility crews responded promptly, halting the overflow by 2:05 p.m. The affected area and downstream sections were treated with a chlorine solution to mitigate environmental and public health risks.
The N.C. Division of Water Quality was notified in accordance with state regulations.
