MORONI, Utah (KUTV) — A pregnant woman and her newborn baby died following a vehicle collision while she was walking near 1808 E. Dairy Lane on Tuesday at approximately 7:55 a.m.

According to Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), Rebecca Hafen was struck by a vehicle while walking on the shoulder of the road. She was transported to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries later that day. Emergency medical personnel performed a cesarean section to deliver the newborn, who was subsequently admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

A GoFundMe organized for Hafen's family provided an update Wednesday, reporting that the newborn had also died. “Tyson's sweet baby passed away,” the update stated. The family was able to spend time with the baby before his passing.

UHP officials noted that no charges are expected against the driver unless speed is confirmed as a contributing factor. The Sanpete County Attorney's Office will determine any charges.

The GoFundMe campaign aims to assist the Hafen family with medical expenses and support as they navigate their loss.

For further updates, authorities remain on the scene, monitoring the investigation.
