MORONI, Utah (KUTV) — A mother of nine and her newborn child died following a vehicle collision on Tuesday, approximately 7:55 a.m. on Dairy Lane.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Rebecca Hafen was walking on the shoulder when a vehicle struck her. Despite being rushed to a hospital, Hafen succumbed to her injuries later that day.
Emergency responders performed a crucial delivery after the accident, transporting the newborn to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Unfortunately, a GoFundMe update indicated that the infant passed away shortly after.
“Today, our family received more heartbreaking news,” the update stated. Family members were able to spend time with the baby before his passing, reflecting on the dual loss of Rebecca and her child.
Authorities revealed that no charges against the driver are anticipated unless speed is found to be a contributing factor. The Sanpete County Attorney's Office will ultimately decide on any potential charges.
A GoFundMe campaign is underway to assist the family with medical expenses and support during this tragedy.
