KAUAI, Hawaii (Island News) — A tour helicopter crash near Kalalau Beach on Thursday, March 26, 2026, resulted in three fatalities and two injuries.
The victims were identified as Patrick Haskell and Margaret Rimmler, a married couple from Massachusetts, who died in the crash at approximately 3:45 p.m. A 40-year-old female passenger remains unidentified as authorities notify her next of kin.
Two additional individuals suffered injuries and were transported to Wilcox Medical Center for treatment. The helicopter, operated by Airborne Aviation, is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
Kauai Mayor Derek Kawakami extended condolences to the victims’ families and praised the emergency responders for their swift action. “Our community can take comfort in knowing that we have dedicated professionals ready to answer the call at any hour,” Kawakami stated at a press conference.
Kauai County Fire Chief Michael Gibson noted the immediate response from bystanders and surviving passengers, who initiated CPR on the victims. “These actions truly reflect the strength and compassion of our community,” Gibson remarked.
The NTSB, along with the Federal Aviation Administration, has commenced an investigation into the crash’s cause.
