CHIHUAHUA, Mexico (TNND) — Two U.S. Embassy officials, one Mexican official, and a police officer died in a crash in Chihuahua on Sunday.

According to authorities, the U.S. officials were engaged in efforts to dismantle a drug lab in Morelos. The crash is part of a troubling pattern of violence following the February death of Jalisco New Generation Cartel leader Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho.”

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson expressed condolences, stating, “This tragedy is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by those Mexican and U.S. officials who are dedicated to protecting our communities.” He emphasized the commitment to security and justice in light of this incident.
