Two Fatalities in I-195 Crash in Dartmouth, MA, on Saturday Afternoon
DARTMOUTH, MA—Two individuals died following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 195 westbound near Exit 19 (Reed Road) around 1:35 p.m. on Saturday.
State Police troopers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting the incident, discovering two males ejected from a gray Chevy Equinox. Both victims sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, where they were later pronounced dead, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
On Sunday, officials identified the victims as 19-year-old Kevin Dos Santos Lopes of New Bedford and 18-year-old Amilton De Pina Semedo of Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
The collision was severe enough to displace the vehicle's engine, though the exact cause remains under investigation, with no indications of foul play, authorities said.
Witnesses reported the vehicle was heavily damaged before being removed from the scene. Following the accident, the westbound center and right lanes of I-195 were closed to assist emergency services and investigators, resulting in slowed traffic in the area.
