Two Teens Killed in Hit-and-Run in New Jersey
Cranford, NJ — Two 17-year-old girls, Maria Niotis and Isabella Sala, were fatally injured in a hit-and-run incident while riding an electric bike on Monday at approximately 5:30 p.m., according to authorities.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find the teens seriously hurt. Despite being transported to a local hospital, both were pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A 17-year-old male from Garwood has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the crash, though his identity has not been disclosed. According to authorities, neighbors reported that the suspect had been stalking one of the girls for several months, with claims of him parking outside her home and monitoring her online activity.
The Cranford Township Committee expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, extending condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The Cranford Police Department is collaborating with the Union County Prosecutor's Office as the investigation continues.
