HAZARD, Ky. (LEX 18) — Two people are dead, and a Kentucky State Police trooper is seriously injured following a crash on Sunday morning.

According to Kentucky State Police (KSP), the incident occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m. at the intersection of KY-80 and Perry Circle Road in Hazard. A trooper from Post 13 was traveling east on KY-80 in response to an emergency call, when another vehicle traveling west attempted to turn left onto Perry Circle Road, colliding with the trooper's vehicle.

The Perry County Coroner's Office pronounced the driver and passenger of the westbound vehicle dead at the scene. KSP reported that the trooper sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was first taken to Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center before being transferred to UK Chandler Medical Center for further treatment.

The KSP Critical Incident Response Team is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing. KSP stated that specific details will be withheld until vital witnesses are interviewed and all relevant facts are gathered to ensure transparency and integrity in the inquiry.
