Two Injured in Rollover Crash in Cranston
CRANSTON, RI — Two individuals were injured in a rollover crash involving two trucks on Plainfield Pike on Thursday at approximately 11:33 a.m., according to Cranston police.
The incident began when a dump truck traveling north on Plainfield Pike encountered a mechanical issue, which caused it to veer into the oncoming southbound lane. A second vehicle, an HVAC tow truck, was in the southbound lane at the time.
In an effort to avoid a head-on collision, the tow truck operator swerved. However, the dump truck struck the tow truck on the driver's side, causing the tow truck to spin 180 degrees. The dump truck continued north over the curb and into a nearby parking lot, where it tipped over.
Both vehicles suffered extensive damage. Authorities reported that the operators of both trucks were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.
Based on preliminary findings, police indicated that the crash appeared to be caused by a mechanical failure of the dump truck.
