Two Dead, Two Injured in New Bedford Crash on Route 140
NEW BEDFORD, MA — Two people died, and two others were injured in a single-car crash along Route 140 early Saturday morning.
According to State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on the southbound side of the highway at Mile Marker 2.1. Emergency responders arrived to find a severely damaged Honda Civic off the roadway with four occupants.
One individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining three passengers were transported to a local hospital, where another person succumbed to their injuries. The condition of the two injured individuals remains unknown.
During the investigation, traffic was allowed to pass in the breakdown lane. The roadway reopened to regular traffic shortly after 5 a.m.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims, pending family notification, and extended their condolences to the victims' families.
The cause of the crash has not been determined, and an investigation is ongoing.
