QUINCY, MA – A box truck accident caused significant traffic delays Friday morning on Interstate 93 northbound following the Braintree split.
Authorities reported the crash occurred around 3:45 a.m. near the entrance to the High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was later rescued by Quincy fire and EMS personnel, who transported them to a local hospital; the driver's condition remains unknown.
The box truck became lodged on top of HOV barriers, blocking two left lanes and forcing the closure of the HOV lane. Crews are currently on scene with multiple heavy tow trucks to assist in the removal of the truck, which continues to impact traffic flow.
State Police confirmed that traffic congestion is expected to persist until the truck is cleared from the roadway.
