Topsfield, MA—A 19-year-old man died from injuries sustained in a crash late Thursday night.
Authorities reported the accident occurred at approximately 10:14 p.m. on Washington Street near 188. Officers arrived to find the victim trapped in his vehicle, which had struck a tree with significant force. The Topsfield Fire Department utilized hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the driver, who was later transported to Beverly Hospital.
Despite the efforts of bystanders and advanced life support from the Topsfield and Middleton Fire Departments, the individual was pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin, though police confirmed he was a Boxford resident.
Topsfield Police Chief Jenifer Collins Brown and Captain Daniel Bell commended the neighbors for their quick response and intervention at the scene. “Our thoughts are with everyone involved and impacted by this tragic situation,” they stated.
Massachusetts State Police are assisting with a crash reconstruction, and initial findings suggest that speed may have been a factor.
