Three Family Members Killed in New Mexico Crash
MORIARTY, N.M. — Three members of a Wahiawa family were killed at approximately 4:30 p.m. on October 4, 2026, when a commercial truck crossed the median on Interstate 40.
According to the New Mexico State Police, Wayne Viveiros, 68; Luana Viveiros, 51; and their daughter, Lilinoe Viveiros, 22, were all pronounced dead at the scene, along with the driver of the commercial truck that struck their vehicle and another truck. The truck involved became engulfed in flames following the collision.
Authorities stated the commercial vehicle was traveling westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lanes for reasons still under investigation. The driver of a second commercial truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken from the scene for medical attention.
New Mexico State Police indicated that the deceased driver of the first commercial truck was determined to be at fault for the incident. Investigators are exploring whether factors such as alcohol, drugs, speed, or fatigue played a role in the crash.
A GoFundMe page established for the Viveiros family, which includes two surviving sons not on the trip, has raised over $47,000 to assist with funeral arrangements and living expenses.
The crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police and its Vehicular Crimes Unit.
