WELD COUNTY, Colo. — Three recent graduates from Eaton High School were killed and two others injured in a rollover crash east of Ault on Saturday evening.
According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the incident occurred at approximately 5:18 p.m. when a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling west on Weld County Road 80 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle lost control, veered off the roadway, and rolled several times, ejecting all five occupants.
CSP reported that three males—a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old from Eaton and a 19-year-old from Greeley—were pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old driver from Wyoming was airlifted to a local hospital with critical injuries, while a fifth occupant, a 19-year-old male from Eaton, sustained minor injuries and was also transported for medical care.
The Weld County Coroner's Office will release the identities of the deceased. The crash has profoundly impacted the Eaton community; the Eaton School District confirmed that four recent graduates were involved, including the three who died.
In a statement, the district expressed condolences to families and friends affected by the tragedy. Crisis counseling services will be available at Eaton High School from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday for students, staff, and community members seeking support.
Eaton police will provide assistance as the community copes with the loss. CSP continues to investigate the cause of the crash, examining all potential contributing factors. Eastbound Weld County Road 80 at Weld County 39 was closed for several hours during the investigation and reopened at 11:15 p.m.
