Aurora Crash Sends Texas Driver to Prison for Fatality
AURORA, CO – A Texas driver was sentenced to four years in prison on March 1, 2024, for causing a fatal crash near a dialysis center.
Taylor Marcus Douglas, 31, from Huntsville, allegedly sped and weaved through traffic before striking an SUV on April 15, 2024. An Arapahoe County jury convicted him of vehicular homicide and reckless driving in November.
The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. as Janis Camfield, 71, was leaving the Aurora dialysis center with her husband. Their SUV was turning onto South Chambers Road near East Center Avenue when it was T-boned by Douglas, who was driving a black Nissan Altima.
Crash data revealed Douglas was traveling at 98 mph shortly before the collision and at 73 mph upon impact. Both Camfield and her husband were transported to the hospital, where she later died.
Authorities confirmed Douglas will serve 90 days in jail for the reckless driving charge alongside his felony sentence. Emergency responders and law enforcement are continuing the investigation into the events leading up to the crash.
