KAPOLEI, Hawaii (Island News) – A fatal crash occurred late Monday night on Farrington Hwy, resulting in the death of a 28-year-old man.

The accident took place around 11:55 p.m. in the Kapolei area. According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD), the man was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a 60-year-old driver's vehicle.

The impact caused the younger driver to lose control, colliding with the center concrete barrier and becoming airborne over into the westbound lanes, where his vehicle rolled multiple times. He was onto the roadway and at the scene.

The 60-year-old driver remained unharmed and at the scene. Speed is currently believed to be a primary factor in the incident; however, it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved.

This incident marks Oahu's 16th traffic fatality in 2026, a decrease compared to 30 fatalities at this time last year. The investigation is ongoing.
