Teen dies, another injured in mini bike accident in Riviera Beach

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. — A 16-year-old boy was killed and another teen injured Saturday after a mini bike collided with a on West Blue Heron Boulevard.

The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. in the 600 block of Blue Heron Boulevard. According to Riviera Beach Police, the mini bike, operated by 16-year-old Douglas Lundy of Riviera Beach, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a westbound Nissan Sentra. Police noted that the mini bike was traveling above the posted speed limit at the time of the incident.

Lundy and his 17-year-old passenger were transported to St. Mary's Medical Center. Lundy succumbed to his injuries, while the other teen sustained minor injuries. Neither was wearing a helmet, and authorities confirmed that the mini bike was not street legal.

The driver of the Nissan, who was not injured, remained at the scene. Authorities said no charges are pending against him. The Palm Beach County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death, and the investigation is ongoing.
