Taylor Swift has made a significant donation of $50,000 to support Ashley Taunton, a Rhode Island mother who suffered serious injuries in a car crash last month. The accident occurred on July 18 while Taunton was driving on I-95 in Hopkinton during a severe rainstorm.
Witnesses reported that a vehicle in front of Taunton hydroplaned off the road. In an act of courage, she stopped her car and rushed to help the teenagers involved, as stated by her husband, Joe Taunton, to NBC affiliate WJAR of Providence.
While she provided assistance, another vehicle lost control and hydroplaned toward her and the crash victims. “In a split-second act of pure bravery, Ashley pushed the other person out of harm's way, taking the brunt of the impact herself,” described an online fundraiser aimed at covering her medical expenses.
Ashley sustained a severe leg injury and numerous internal injuries including damage to her small and large intestines, lacerations to her liver, and a ruptured diaphragm that led to a collapsed lung. Her husband noted that she has undergone at least three surgeries since the incident.
Throughout her recovery, Ashley has shared updates on social media, documenting her journey from the hospital to her current situation at home in a leg brace. On Friday, she expressed her gratitude on Instagram for Swift's generous donation, stating, “This is absolutely mind-blowing and so very humbling.”
She also reached out to Swift directly, saying, “You are a beautiful soul I wish I could hug you IRL. Thank you Jesus for so many amazing humans. This is unbelievable and I am overwhelmed with gratitude.”
