Serious Multi-Car Crash Closes Monona Intersection.

MONONA, Wis. (WKOW) — Two individuals sustained serious injuries in a collision at the intersection of East Broadway and Monona Drive on Tuesday.

Monona police were dispatched to the scene of the crash at approximately 12:12 p.m. and discovered a significant accident involving several vehicles, as detailed in a press release from the department.

A man and a woman, each driving separate vehicles, were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. Other involved drivers reported injuries and received evaluations from emergency medical services but did not require hospitalization.

In response to the incident, Monona police called for assistance from other law enforcement agencies for traffic management, including the regulation of exit ramps from U.S. Highway 12 to Monona Drive.

Further support was sought from the Wisconsin State Patrol for the purpose of crash reconstruction. Investigators are currently collecting statements and reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area.

The intersection of Monona Drive and East Broadway will remain closed while the investigation is ongoing. Additionally, Madison Metro bus service in the vicinity has been rerouted.

Motorists attempting to access Monona Drive from U.S. Highway 12 are advised to utilize the Highway 51 or Broadway exits to alleviate traffic congestion near the intersection.

Monona Police Chief Brian Chaney indicated that the intersection is expected to reopen around 5 p.m. and confirmed that all vehicles and drivers have been accounted for.

Chaney stated that speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash and encouraged the community to keep those seriously injured in their thoughts.
