Secret Service Apprehends Fleeing Driver After Fatal Crash Near White House.

WASHINGTON (7News) — A two-vehicle crash early Saturday near the White House resulted in one passenger's death and the driver of one vehicle fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of 17th Street and Constitution Avenue NW, according to United States Park Police.

Authorities stated the driver of the suspected vehicle fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by the U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division. The suspect has since been transferred to U.S. Park Police custody.

One driver was with non-life-threatening injuries, while a passenger was during the crash and at the scene. The deceased's body was transported by the District of Columbia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The U.S. Park Police Traffic Safety Unit conducted the initial investigation and reconstruction of the crash. Following consultation with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, the U.S. Park Police have taken over the investigation and associated arrests.

The suspect remains in custody, with charges pending coordination with the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Road closures related to the investigation have been lifted, and all affected roadways have resumed normal operations. The investigation is ongoing.
