Troopers say a suspect in a stolen car caused a crash with a Maysville police officer during a chase on Highway 58 South.
The town manager says officers first responded to a call about careless and reckless driving.
During the investigation, they determined the car had been stolen, leading to the pursuit.
Troopers say the car abruptly slammed on its brakes, causing a collision with a police vehicle.
They say the officers did not report any injuries, but the driver of the stolen car suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.
A passenger in the vehicle was taken to Carteret Health Care for treatment.
