Raw chicken spill from three semis shuts down part of I-81 in Cumberland County.

A collision involving three tractor-trailers occurred early Wednesday on I-81 northbound in Cumberland County.

The crash was reported at approximately 3:25 a.m. near mile marker 28, resulting in debris and hazardous materials across the roadway.

According to PennDOT, one tractor-trailer was transporting raw chicken, which spilled onto the highway. Another vehicle was carrying mail, while the cargo of the third vehicle has not been disclosed.

Authorities confirmed that Franklin County crews were deployed to assist with closing the interstate. Lane restrictions were instituted between mile markers 24 and 29 due to the incident.

PennDOT stated that I-81 northbound will remain closed for several hours. One individual was transported to the hospital for treatment.

As of 9:30 a.m., PennDOT confirmed that the roadway has reopened. Clean-up efforts included the disposal of the spilled chicken at a landfill.
