Collision on I-40 Leaves One Dead, Several Injured

RALEIGH, N.C. — A crash on I-40 near Exit 299 claimed one life and resulted in multiple injuries on Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m. involving three vehicles in the eastbound lanes. According to the NORTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROL, emergency responders assessed several individuals on the scene for injuries. One fatality has been confirmed, and authorities have not released the identity pending notification of next of kin.

Witnesses reported significant debris scattered across the roadway as a result of the collision. Emergency units from the RALEIGH FIRE DEPARTMENT and WAKE COUNTY EMS arrived promptly to provide medical aid.

Due to the accident, the eastbound lanes of I-40 were temporarily closed, causing traffic delays in the area. Towing services were dispatched to clear the wreckage. Authorities expect the road to remain closed for several hours as an investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
