Fundraiser Held for Cambridge Crash Victim Olivia Zerwas
WEST BOYLSTON, Mass. — A pickleball fundraiser took place on June 13 at RT. 12 Pickle, supporting 23-year-old Olivia Zerwas, injured in a stolen car crash in Cambridge earlier this year.
On January 19, David Powell led police on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle, ultimately crashing into a biotech building at the intersection of Albany, Waverly, and Erie streets. The crash resulted in injuries to two individuals, including Zerwas, who suffered multiple broken bones, third-degree burns, and the loss of her leg.
Organizers stated that Zerwas's recovery will require extensive long-term care. During the tournament, titled “The Liv Strong Paddle Battle,” all proceeds were directed toward her medical expenses.
According to the GoFundMe page dedicated to her, “Recovery will take years, not months, and will involve challenges that go far beyond the hospital.” For those interested in contributing, donations can be made via the GoFundMe link.
