Lede: A 72-year-old woman was struck and killed while crossing Highway 61 in Winona County on Thursday morning.
Authorities reported that around 4:40 a.m., deputies responded to a pedestrian-involved accident in the left southbound lane of Highway 61 at Winona County Road 7. A vehicle traveling eastbound on Winona County Road 7 crossed Highway 61 before crashing into a ditch.
The driver, identified as Lois Irene Davis of Winona, exited her vehicle and began to cross Highway 61. She was struck by one vehicle that subsequently stopped, followed by another vehicle.
The Minnesota State Patrol confirmed that the road was wet at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
Tows and lane closures were implemented as emergency response teams managed the situation.
