(WJAR) — A fatal crash occurred on Route 44 in Taunton on Monday, resulting in one death.
Authorities reported the collision involved four vehicles, including a tractor-trailer. The area between Burt Street and North Walker Street was closed for several hours as emergency responders processed the scene.
Witnesses observed at least two cars severely damaged. In total, four cars and the tractor-trailer were towed from the crash site. Officials have not confirmed any additional injuries.
The exact cause of the crash is under investigation. Authorities have not released the name of the deceased nor mentioned any potential charges.
Neighbors expressed concern over the roadway's safety, noting previous accidents in the area. “It's heartbreaking… you don't ever want to hear there's a fatality,” said resident Doreen Lombardo, who described the road as a “speedway” where drivers often exceed safe speeds.
