One Dead Following Pickup Truck Incident in Fort Collins During Tour de Fat Celebration
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A driver allegedly drove a pickup truck onto a sidewalk and struck multiple pedestrians at 11:44 a.m. Saturday during the Tour de Fat celebration, leading to one death, according to Fort Collins Police.
Reports indicate the truck reversed from a parking spot on Mountain Avenue and hit another vehicle before moving onto the sidewalk, where it struck pedestrians before colliding with a tree.
Six individuals, including the driver, were taken to the hospital. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident, including potential impairment. Police do not believe pedestrians were intentionally targeted.
It remains unclear whether the crash involved participants of the Tour de Fat festival, which draws thousands to Old Town Fort Collins each year. The status of the driver regarding arrest or citations has not been confirmed.
“This is probably the biggest day of the year for Fort Collins. It's a holiday,” said Kim Sewald, a local business owner, commenting on the incident's impact on the community.
