Dewey County, OK – September 11, 2023 – One person is dead and multiple others injured following a crash involving a semi-truck and an ambulance on Highway 270 near 770 Road, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).
Authorities said the driver of the Woodward County EMS ambulance was pronounced dead at the scene. Five individuals were transported to local hospitals with injuries.
The OHP confirmed the ambulance was responding to an emergency call when the collision occurred. The names of those involved have not yet been released.
Emergency response teams from local fire departments and law enforcement were on the scene to assist in rescue operations. Towing services were also required to clear the wreckage from the roadway.
The incident remains under investigation, and traffic on Highway 270 experienced significant delays due to lane closures during the response.
Woodward County Commissioner Clint White expressed condolences, stating, “We grieve the loss of one of our own—a dedicated paramedic who gave their life in service to others.” He extended heartfelt sympathies to the victim's family and friends.
Woodward's Air Evac Lifeteam 70 issued a statement highlighting the shared mission of EMS personnel, saying, “When tragedy strikes one of our own, it is felt across every shift, every station, and every agency.”
