Two people from Union were involved in a fatal crash on Highway 50 Thursday afternoon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).
A crash report confirmed that a 2018 Nissan Altima was westbound on Highway 50, east of MO-BB, at approximately 2:07 p.m. when the driver attempted to pass multiple vehicles in the eastbound lane.
The Altima collided head-on with a 2023 Nissan Maxima, whose driver attempted to evade the oncoming vehicle. The 48-year-old female driver of the Maxima sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
Emergency Medical Services pronounced the 55-year-old male Altima driver dead at the scene at 2:18 p.m. MSHP reported that the female driver was wearing a seatbelt, while the male driver was not.
The investigation is ongoing, and lane closures were implemented following the crash.
