One Fatality in Wrong-Way Crash in Millbury, MA Early Saturday
MILLBURY, MA — One person was killed and another injured in a wrong-way crash on Route 146 shortly after midnight on Saturday.
According to Massachusetts State Police, the incident began around 12:43 a.m. when officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 90 westbound. The driver initially pulled over but fled as a trooper approached, prompting a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) alert.
Troopers spotted the suspect vehicle shortly after, around 12:55 a.m., as it entered Route 146, traveling south in the northbound lanes. Despite deploying stop sticks, the wrong-way driver collided head-on with another vehicle between the on and off-ramps at Exit 17.
Authorities confirmed that the wrong-way driver, a Connecticut man in his 20s, died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated by emergency medical personnel.
Emergency response included Millbury Fire and EMS, Worcester County State Police detectives, collision analysis reconstruction members, and the crime scene services unit. All lanes on Route 146 were closed for the investigation and reopened around 4:30 a.m.
