Fatal Crash on Interstate 65 in Chilton County
CLANTON, AL – A one-car crash on Interstate 65 resulted in the death of a Birmingham man on September 1, 2024.
According to Alabama State Troopers, 57-year-old Vernon Cooper was driving northbound when his vehicle left the interstate, struck an embankment, and overturned around 5:30 p.m., approximately two miles north of Clanton.
Troopers reported that Cooper was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Emergency response teams were dispatched to the area, and the right lane of the northbound traffic was closed while the wreckage was cleared and an investigation took place. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
