NORTH HAVEN, Conn. — A University of New Haven student was killed and four others injured in a four-vehicle crash on I-91 South late Friday night.

According to Connecticut State Police, a 30-year-old man from Bridgeport was driving a Silverado northbound in the southbound lanes when he collided head-on with a Honda Accord shortly before midnight. The Honda was subsequently struck by two additional vehicles.

The driver of the Honda Accord, identified as 21-year-old Ryan O'Shea from New York, was at the scene. O'Shea was a current student at the University of New Haven, where he served as a senior assistant captain of the men's hockey team.

Authorities reported that the driver of the Silverado was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. The other two drivers involved, and one passenger, sustained minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is currently investigating the incident. Lane closures were reported following the crash, and no charges have been filed at this time.

The University of New Haven plans to hold a campus memorial for O'Shea at a future date, with details forthcoming. The school is also offering grief counseling services to students through its Counseling and Psychological Services office.
