Two Oakridge Residents Die in Highway 58 Crash
Feb. 9, 2026, 5:32 p.m. PT—Two Oakridge residents are dead following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 58 near milepost 40 in Lane County on Feb. 8.
According to the Oregon State Police, Anais Spring Rowell, 25, was driving a Toyota Tacoma eastbound on Highway 58 around 1:30 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree head-on for unknown reasons.
Both Rowell and passenger Malia Kana Malo, 24, were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed neither was wearing a seatbelt.
The highway remained open during the investigation, overseen by Oakridge Fire officials and law enforcement.
The Malo family described Malia as a “caring, beautiful, artistic soul” in a GoFundMe page created for funeral expenses, stating, “The loss of her will never be able to be replaced.”
This incident remains under investigation by the Oregon State Police.
