NH Man Dies in Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-95 in Maine.

LEMPSTER, NH — A New Hampshire man died in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Newport late Tuesday night.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., Maine State Police responded to reports of a Chevrolet Volt stopped in the northbound lane of I-95. As troopers arrived, they learned the vehicle had been struck from behind by a Freightliner tractor-trailer.

The investigation revealed the impact pushed the Volt into the median, while the tractor-trailer rolled onto its passenger side, blocking the southbound lanes. The driver of the Volt, 33-year-old Juan Guallpa, was at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Sebasticook Valley Hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not determined why Guallpa's vehicle was stopped in the travel lane. Both northbound and southbound lanes were closed following the collision, with traffic diverted. The northbound lanes reopened around 3 a.m., while the southbound lanes remain down to one lane as crews work to clear the scene. Cleanup efforts are expected to last approximately eight hours.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Trooper Joshua Staples at 207-973-3700, Ext. 9.
