Rochester Man Charged with DUI in Fatal Hartford, VT Crash
HARTFORD, VT — A Rochester man faces DUI charges following a fatal crash on Interstate 89 late Thursday night.
According to Vermont State Police, the crash occurred around 8:15 p.m. involving a BMW 750i and a FedEx truck near mile marker 4.3. The driver of the FedEx truck, identified as Andrew Pott, 36, of Burke, Vermont, died at the scene.
Authorities reported that the BMW was driven by Gabriel Vestal, 20, of Rochester, New Hampshire. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. While being interviewed by police, signs of impairment were observed, prompting an investigation that led to charges against Vestal for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 89 were closed for several hours during the investigation but reopened around 4 a.m. Friday. Vestal is scheduled to appear in Windsor County Court in June.
