SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A Nephi missionary remains in critical condition following a pedestrian accident in Johnson City, Tennessee, on Tuesday morning.

Sister Addison Worwood, who is serving in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission, was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street with her companion in a marked crosswalk, according to her family. The driver reportedly did not see her at the time of the incident.

Worwood, 20, has been serving for approximately one year of her 18-month mission. Her parents arrived in Tennessee on Wednesday to be with her, her aunt Kelly Gribbin reported.

Following multiple brain surgeries, Worwood remains critically injured. Doctors performed procedures to relieve pressure and stop bleeding in her brain, including the removal of a portion of her skull and the placement of a titanium plate. She also sustained fractures to her face and hip, which will be addressed once her neurological condition stabilizes.

While medical staff have reduced her sedation, Worwood remains on a ventilator and is closely monitored for her blood pressure and heart rate. According to her mother, she has movement in her arms and legs but is not yet responsive to commands.

The family indicated that the next 24 to 48 hours are crucial for her recovery from severe brain trauma. Worwood is expected to stay in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit until she can breathe independently.

Her family, who owns The Bow Shop and 7 Woods Outdoors in Nephi, appreciates the community's support and prayers during this challenging time.
