SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A 20-year-old missionary from Nephi is in critical condition following a pedestrian accident in Johnson City, Tennessee, on Tuesday morning.
Sister Addison Worwood, serving in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission, was struck by a vehicle while crossing in a designated crosswalk with her companion, according to authorities. Her family confirmed the incident occurred just after 10:45 a.m.
Worwood has been serving her 18-month mission for nearly a year. She sustained severe injuries, including multiple brain traumas, facial fractures, and a hip fracture. Medical personnel performed multiple surgeries to relieve pressure and stop internal bleeding in her brain.
Her mother provided an update stating that surgeons removed a portion of her skull to accommodate brain swelling and secured another section with a titanium plate. As of Wednesday afternoon, Worwood remains on a ventilator and under pain medication but has shown slight movement in her limbs.
Family members have traveled to Tennessee to be with her as she recovers. Doctors are closely monitoring her vital signs, and the next 24 to 48 hours are deemed critical for her condition.
Worwood is expected to stay in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit until her condition stabilizes further. The family expressed gratitude for the community's support and prayers during this challenging time.
The Worwoods are local business owners of The Bow Shop and 7 Woods Outdoors in Nephi.
