BEDFORD, N.H. — A Nashua man died following a boating accident on the Merrimack River on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities identified the victim as 31-year-old Erick Machado. According to State Police, Machado was operating a personal watercraft when he collided with the rear of a pontoon boat, resulting in him being thrown into the water.
Bystanders on another watercraft assisted in bringing Machado aboard their boat, from where he was transported to shore. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but Machado was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police did not confirm any additional injuries in relation to the incident. A substantial police presence was noted near the old Sagamore Bridge, with a jet ski also observed in the water.
The response included Marine Patrol, Hudson Police, firefighters, and State Police. An investigation is ongoing.
