NORTH CHARLESTON — Police are searching for the driver involved in a pursuit and crash that occurred on August 21 on eastbound Interstate 26.
The incident began at 12:18 p.m. when Officer Chris Schuessler attempted to pull over a silver Cadillac sedan for speeding near the Midland Park overpass. The driver fled, reaching speeds of 100 mph in a 60 mph zone, weaving through traffic.
Shortly thereafter, the vehicle crashed into a semi-truck and multiple other vehicles near exits 212B and 212C. Although officers located the wrecked Cadillac, the driver had fled on foot towards Taylor Street and Jonah Street, authorities said.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported. All traffic lanes were reopened by 2 p.m. According to police, the Cadillac had been rented by an individual residing in Berkeley County. A red bag containing two rifle magazines, one loaded, was discovered in the trunk.
An accident report from the state Highway Patrol is pending. The public has not yet been provided with the driver's identity.
