WOODSTOCK, ME — A GM pickup struck a motorcycle on South Main Street near Route 232 on Sunday evening, resulting in one fatality and significant injuries.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. The diesel pickup was traveling south in the far-right lane when a lead motorcycle attempted to pass in the passing lane. Witnesses reported that the truck abruptly veered left into the motorcycle's lane, causing the rider to lose control and crash into a wooded area.
The motorcycle driver, a 60-year-old man from Oxford, was severely injured and died shortly after being transported to the hospital. His 50-year-old female passenger, also from Oxford, sustained significant injuries and is currently hospitalized. Names of the victims have not been released.
Emergency responders from the Woodstock Fire Department, Pace Ambulance, and Bethel Rescue assisted at the scene. The Oxford County and Androscoggin County crash reconstruction teams are conducting the investigation. Surveillance footage of the pickup has been obtained, and law enforcement confirmed it was seen southbound on Route 26.
Authorities announced on Monday night that they have identified a person of interest in connection with the truck but did not disclose further details. No charges or arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
