Motorcyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run on U.S. Highway 17
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH — A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash on U.S. Highway 17 on August 29, authorities reported.
Cheryl Richards, 67, of North Myrtle Beach, was arrested on September 2 and charged with hit and run involving death or injury, according to Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the S.C. Highway Patrol. Richards was driving a 2025 Ford SUV around 7:35 p.m. when she struck a 2023 Harley Davidson motorcycle near Chuck Lane.
The motorcycle was operated by 41-year-old Eric Odom of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C. Odom was transported to Grand Strand Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the Horry County Coroner's Office.
Reports indicate that Richards was uninjured in the incident. Following her arrest, she was taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center and has since been released on an $80,000 bond, currently under home detention.
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are available at this time.
