PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A 35-year-old man faces felony charges following a crash caused by a thrown trash can during the June 6 Feast of St. Joseph.

Robert Maggiacomo of Cumberland has been charged after allegedly throwing a trash can at a moving motorcycle in Federal Hill, resulting in the rider losing control. The incident occurred amid the busy street festival, drawing large crowds.

The motorcyclist, 19-year-old Michael Carnevale of Johnston, was cited for and other motor vehicle violations.

“This investigation revealed actions that allegedly placed a motorcyclist and numerous members of the public at serious risk of harm,” said Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez. “Our detectives' thorough work has led to these charges, emphasizing that dangerous conduct jeopardizing public safety will have real consequences.”

Authorities are continuing to gather evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
