HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Two mothers will accept diplomas for their sons lost in a street racing crash in Goochland County on May 20, 2024.
The crash occurred on Hockett Road near Tuckahoe Creek Parkway, involving a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Hayden Alexander Kyle. Deputies confirmed the vehicle collided with a tree during a street race, resulting in the deaths of two Tucker High School students, Joseph Castro and Aiden Schmidt.
Kyle has pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by racing, with sentencing scheduled for Friday morning. He may face significant punishment for his actions.
Allison Schmidt and Sonia Rodriguez, the victims' mothers, expressed their desire to raise awareness about the dangers of reckless driving. “We want to bring awareness,” Schmidt stated. “If this could change somebody's life, think about it.”
According to Crime Insider sources, Carson Lambert, a Benedictine student involved in the other vehicle during the race, was recently arrested for DUI and crashing a stolen car into a Chesterfield firehouse.
The mothers are determined that the sentencing not only serves as punishment but also sends a message about the consequences of reckless driving.
