DORCHESTER, MA – A moped operator sustained life-threatening injuries in a collision with a vehicle on Friday evening.
Around 7 p.m., authorities responded to the crash at the intersection of Columbia Road and Ceylon Street. The rider was found unresponsive on the ground and was transported to an area hospital by Boston EMS.
The severity of the injuries prompted a response from the Boston Police Fatal Collision Reconstruction Team, according to the Boston Police. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
Investigators reported that the vehicle struck the moped operator, who was exhibiting signs of altered consciousness.
Columbia Road was closed in both directions between Quincy Street and Geneva Avenue, and all intersecting streets were also closed to traffic. Authorities advised drivers to avoid the area.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing.
